My Story

I'm a User Experience Designer and Researcher working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Most recently, I've built compelling shopping (e-commerce) experiences as an Experience Design team member at Fluid, Inc.

I grew up in San Francisco, and my high school classmates crowned me "The Next Bill Gates" because I was always in front of a computer. During my undergrad years at UC San Diego, I tried out a number of majors, finally finding happiness with Cognitive Science. With this roundabout return to my technical roots, I earned a B.S. in Cognitive Science, specializing in HCI, balancing my love of people and my passion for technology.

Outside of HCI, I enjoy knitting and baking, and I like to stay up to date on current events via the blogosphere.

My Philosophy

Designing for real people starts with getting to know them in the context of their actual work. I believe that observing real activities centers and stabilizes the design process.

Data collected from interactions with real users helps me, my team, and my client advocate for and empathize with the users and put apply our own breadth and depth to the problem. During synthesis, we distill words and actions into models and diagrams, unearthing the pain points and opportunities that drive the eventual design.

During this process, tools like personas, scenarios, sketching, and storyboarding help give the design form. From there, we test our initial design to see what changes we need to make, then we go back to pens and paper to do it all again. Through this iterative design, we find the right design to fit the problem at hand.
